Storyteller

I am an artist that enjoys telling stories about the complexities of the human spirit. I have a passion to give voice to the characters that challenge, surprise and enlighten us. I long to explore stories that make me question how we walk through the world, and how we form relationships in that world. I am fueled by African American stories, poetic language stories, stories with music, stories of rebellion, stories of discovery, and the many untold stories of women.
I am excited by looking at classical plays through our 21st century lenses, and working with new plays that give voice to the many conflicts that we face today. I believe that great art is timeless. Whether a story is set in 1879 or 2039, it should touch our hearts, and awaken our curiosity. Theatre and film excite us because they are personal. They affect you in the moment, in real time, in a space that you share with other human beings.
I studied music at Converse College in South Carolina, theatre at SUNY Binghamton under Gene Lesser; and privately with Ron Van Lieu and Lloyd Richards at the Actors Center in New York. I have been nurtured and mentored by many wonderful artists including Lanford Wilson, Lloyd Richards, Craig Lucas, Edward Albee, Michael Warren Powell, Eve Adamson, Carol Mitchell Leon, Elizabeth Omalami, Tom Jones III, Bill Bordeaux, Patricia Neal, Papa John Richards McCrae, Perry Daniels, Jane Rolandi, Randy Graff, Frank Wittow and Barbara Lebow.
I have taught and guest directed on the faculties of the Juilliard School of Drama, David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, New York University TISCH Graduate Acting, Hunter College, Marymount Manhattan College, City College of New York, NYU Gallatin School, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, 92nd Street Y, John Jay College, Binghamton University, New York State Summer School for the Arts, LaGuardia College, and also coach privately.
I awake everyday filled with gratitude that I have the honor of working at what I love most EVERYDAY!
